mop dc & dc

Meter Operator (MOP), Data Collector (DC) and Data Aggregator (DA) are legal requirements for Half Hourly (HH) electricity meters. The UK has many independent organisations that specialise in delivering these services to energy suppliers and end-users directly.

The MOP is responsible for the maintenance of the physical meter asset, the DC retrieves your consumption data and the DA validates this data in order that it can be used by your supplier for billing purposes.

It is possible to have separate service providers for MOP, DC and DA on the same individual meter or indeed to have multiple MOPs for example across a portfolio of sites and supplies.

Given that MOP DC DA is a legal requirement, if not instructed otherwise your electricity supplier will appoint their preferred MOP DC DA and typically charge this back to you with a supplier margin via a hidden charge on your electricity invoice, often a component of the standing charge.

Where a MOP DC DA has been appointed by the energy supplier, a customer will usually be able to appoint their own MOP DC DA mid-contract.

Negotiating a combined MOP DC & DA contract will reduce the overall cost, give transparency to these costs and also allow UKGP to feed the day+1 consumption data into your online platform for individual sites and collate this data into user-friendly consumption and forecasting reports, tailored to your business needs, giving an accurate picture of energy trends and forming the basis of future energy strategies.

Choosing an appropriate MOP DC&DA ensures timely, quality data, in turn meaning accurate billing from your supplier, automated reporting functionality from UKGP and ensures our bill validation team have immediate access to the data so that you are never paying more than you should for your energy consumption.

We will collate all your MOP DC&DA contracts per meter and consolidate these with one chosen supplier and then manage the transition from start to finish.
