ENERGY INTENSIVE INDUSTRIES (EII): RO, FIT, & CFD EXEMPTION

Energy costs are increasing due to rising green levies and taxations that are driven by government policy to meet low carbon targets.

In some cases, this rise in energy costs due to green taxation is resulting in some UK industries not being able to compete with EU counterparts. As a result, the government has introduced an exemption for certain eligible energy intensive industries (EIIs) from the cost of; Renewable Obligations (RO) scheme, the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme and the Feed in Tariff (FiT) scheme.

Exemption from these charges translates to around 2.5p per kWh of electricity used in eligible processes, and translates to hundreds of thousands of pounds off energy bills each year.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

This scheme is only open to certain eligible manufacturing sectors which you may sit in. Making an eligible product is just the first hurdle, as the scheme can only be claimed by those that meet strict eligibility criteria relating to electricity consumption and financial performance over a historic three-year period.  If your company hasn’t been operational for three years then it doesn’t mean you are out of the running, as eligibility can still be assessed using at least six months of data.

If your company is eligible, then this exemption must be formally demonstrated in a full evidence pack and applied for via the government. Savings will then come directly off energy bills reducing your energy costs over night. The scheme must be correctly maintained and managed going forwards to ensure compliance and retention of the discount.

NEXT STEPS:

UKGP have partnered with an experienced energy consultancy who has had a lot of success obtaining this exemption for eligible clients. If you haven’t already checked if you are eligible then please contact XXX to discuss how we can help assess your eligibility and obtain this discount on your behalf.
