International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001 is Energy Management

Achieving the ISO 50001 standard demonstrates that an organisation uses energy efficiently and in doing so saves money whilst also conserving resources and tackling climate change. ISO 50001 supports the development of an Energy Management System and whilst also fixing targets and objectives around a more efficient use of energy, results are measurable and will aid business decisions around energy use to allow continued improvement.

Achieving ISO 50001 also brings automatic compliance with ESOS legislation.

International Standardisation Organisation 50001 is the international standard for Energy Management and helps businesses to use energy more efficiently through deploying an energy management system (EnMS).

An EnMS helps an organisation to monitor and target energy usage in order to deliver energy savings, with which comes both a positive monetary and carbon impact.

ISO 50001 typically results in significant energy savings and as such will deliver a competitive advantage through cost savings, efficiencies and improved practices. Achieving and maintaining ISO 50001 is also a clear commitment to quality and continually improving standards.

Immediate benefits of ISO 50001 certification:

  • Savings – Saving energy, carbon emissions and associated costs (annual saving of 3%+ is typical, according to The Carbon Trust).

  • Improved management – Boosting the chance of success of other energy efficiency projectsthrough visibility and improved data

  • Reduced risk – Reducing risks related to energy market price volatility and government levies on energy
